BSA Troop 21 - Uniform

You Stand Taller When You Put It On

Uniform

The Boy Scout Scout uniform is an important part of Boy Scouting. It helps to build a sense of belonging with the group. The word "uniform" means "Conforming to one principle, standard or rule; consistant." By properly wearing the Boy Scout uniform, we show our acceptance of the ideals of Boy Scouting - the Scout Oath and the Scout Laws.

The Boy Scout uniform is the only proper place to display rank and other advancements. All awards should be updated as soon as possible. Dated patches, such as old Quality Unit Awards, should be removed or updated when expired.

When in uniform, Scouts should refrain from "individual expression" in the form of accessories and other clothing. The Boy Scout uniform itself provides for expression through the many rank, special achievement and participation awards which are part of the uniform. No patches or awards which are not approved by the BSA should ever be displayed on the uniform. Other restrictions are listed below.

The full Field Uniform is required at all Scoutmaster Conferences AND Boards of Review. Any Scout wishing to attend either of these reviews will need to be in uniform ; Shirt, Neckerchief, MB sash, Pants/shorts, belt.

Our Scouts wear the official uniform recommended by the Boy Scouts of America.

  • BSA Shirt

  • Neckerchief (Troop provided)

  • BSA Slide

Camouflage pants, jackets, etc.
Military style camouflage is never appropriate in Scouts and is forbidden by the Federal Charter.

According to the Rules and Regulations of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA No. 57-492), under "Insignia, Uniforms, and Badges," Clause 4(b) states: "Imitation of United States Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps uniforms is prohibited, in accordance with the provisions of the organization's Charter."

Required Patches All uniforms should have the following minimum patches.

  • American Flag on right sleeve. (Comes with shirt)

  • Patrol patch on right sleeve.

  • Council patch (Pikes Peak Council) on left sleeve.

  • Troop numerals ("21") on left sleeve. (provided @ crossover)

  • World Scouting Crest above left pocket.

See the Uniform Inspection Sheet at the end of this page for placement details.

Jewelry

In addition to not being a part of the official Cub Scout uniform, jewelry can also present a safety concern. Serious injury to the wearer and others can occur when jewelry becomes entangled during activities. The pack committee strongly urges that no jewelry be worn at pack activities regardless of whether the Scouts are in full uniform or not.
  • Necklaces - Any necklace must be completly covered by the uniform shirt. It is strongly suggested that this be limited to religious medalions appropriate to the Scout's faith.
  • Earrings - Earrings are not appropriate with the Cub Scout uniform and should be removed.
  • Rings - Small, plain rings with no protrusions may be permitted. Rings with protrusions which could scratch others are not permitted.

Hair

Hair should be kept clean and neat. Hair which extends to the shoulder or longer should be restrained.

If you have questions regarding any patch placement, please ask your Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, or any Troop Committee member.

In order to assist with proper placement of patches, a copy of the official uniform inspection sheet is given below.
